Jewellery Care and Disclaimer

Jewellery and crystals are delicate and should be handled carefully. Read the guidelines below to help reduce normal wear and tear and to make sure that your favourite jewellery remain long-loved pieces for years to come.

All urskas' jewellery is made from 925 sterling silver and is safe to wear on your skin. Sterling silver is a beautiful precious metal that does need a little love and care to keep it at it's best.

What is wear and tear
Wear and tear describes the general appearance that silver jewellery develops during its life. Precious metals are soft and can distort if squeezed or twisted. Repeated twisting may cause cracking and repeated abrasion may cause permanent changes to the surface. Wear and tear can alter the appearance of jewellery significantly.

What is tarnishing
Sterling silver will naturally tarnish with exposure to the air, environment, perfumes, moisturisers, hairspray, soaps and perspiration. These are obviously a fact of life so regular cleaning will help keep your silver sparkling. Tarnishing is a non permanent, chemical change in the surface of metal which darkens and dulls over time. Tarnishing will eventually happen on silver, changing its colour from bright white, through yellow, then to brown and eventually dark. Pollution, contact with chemicals and some skin types will increase the chances of tarnishing happening quickly. It’s difficult to avoid tarnish on silver, but luckily it could be removed. As tarnishing is a natural process you can either except it as part of the ageing process of your jewellery or you could try to prevent it and eventually remove it when desired.

Jewellery Care
We know you love your jewellery but try not to wear it 24-7 as this will reduce a life of your piece. Put your jewellery on after applying hair products, hand and body creams, perfume and make-up. Remove rings when washing your hands and avoid swimming and bathing while wearing jewellery. All jewellery should be removed when engaging with activities such as sport and houseworks. We also recommend you put on jewellery last when dressing and take off first when undressing as well as we highly recommend to remove jewellery before going to sleep. While not wearing store your jewellery in the original packaging to avoid scratches.

Cleaning Jewellery
We recommend the use of a soft cloth with gentle rubbing. If needed jewellery can be washed in warm water with a mild detergent. Completely dry with a soft, nonabrasive cloth before storing. If you need something more effective to clean your jewellery we recommend you use specialist silver polishing cloths. These cloths will help bring your jewellery back to life on a daily basis, essentially lifting off dirt, grease and fingerprints. Simply rub over your jewellery to achieve best results. Tarnished jewellery could be chemically cleaned using tarnish removing solution or polish. For better results clean away grease and dirt with warm soapy water and chemically clean with a tarnish removing solution or polish. Carefully read the instructions on the solution you are using. Take special care when cleaning jewellery with gemstones as some chemicals could damage them and change their appearance. If your pieces are heavily tarnished and you don’t have the time to clean them, we advise you take them to a professional silver cleaner.

We do not take any responsibility for damage which ensues from your actions. If in doubt, please email us on info@urskas.com.

Well-cared-for silver jewellery can give you many years of pleasure and enjoyment. Silver is valuable, so don’t wait until tarnish has become so bad that you forget about your silver treasures or even get rid of them.
